Breaking Away

Fell Behind

May 12th, 2008

Well I haven’t even wrote 5 posts and now I am falling behind. Real life is always fun and has its set of obstacles. Mostly though I am working really hard on my own clothing life for Second Life. I hope to have my line complete by the summer because designing for me is very time consuming right now because I’m learning as I go. Mostly it is, try and try and try, scream, and then try some more. Hopefully by the end of it all, the seams match, the prim skirts don’t look bad and everything is flowing well.

On Going Blond

April 17th, 2008

So I’ve never been a blond in RL (always been red/brown headed) so I thought I would give it a swing in SL. Even though I don’t prefer it (I like my red hair), it is fun to change, right…

What I’m wearing:
Hair: Lily from ETD: ETD Isle (208, 149, 31)
The Hair is a freebie, along with a wall of other freebie hairs. Very awesome.

Dress: Celestial Studios: Celestial City (78, 206, 26)

While on a hunt for freebies yesterday, I came across a lovely shopping mall. It is called: Fashion Alley in the Rain, located at Combeynot (218, 200, 599). I didn’t exactly buy anything there, but it was fun. The picture at the top of the blog is from a photo booth there.

There is an ice cream parlor and a few other cool sites to check out.

After eating the ice cream and drinking a nice cold beer, what better way to end the visit than lounging in the pouring rain.

Apart from wandering around aimlessly and changing hair color, I have spent most of my time reading tutorials and trying to make some decent clothes in Photoshop. My perfectionist attitude towards my projects is probably going to be my bane. I probably need to advertise my blog…yes, probably do.

Yay-ness

April 8th, 2008

Wee. I finally got my blog how I wanted it. When I first got my Wordpress set up and ready to use, I realized that I didn’t have a clue as how to make a theme. I ended up settling with backwards engineering a ready-made theme. It pains me to say, that even though I have been doing web/graphic design for quite sometime, I still don’t know much about PHP. I’m more of a creative mind and it seems too logical for me. Blah.

But, I got everything how I want it finally. What do you think? The original version seen here is linked and credited in the aptly named “Credit” section.

I am going to go shopping for hair now. Good night one and all.

Tiny Empires

April 8th, 2008

A few weeks ago, I was told about a HUD game that was very fun and could be played while you did whatever it is you do in Second Life (most of you have probably heard of it already). I got it and started playing and was almost instantly hooked. Plus, I have had a problem really connecting with people in Second Life (probably because I spend a great deal of time reading tutorials and trying to make clothes.)

However, through Tiny Empires I have met a number of really cool and kind people. Currently I am a Viscountess in the wonderful kingdom of Olympus. (Here is my standings, I am on there somewhere.) I usually keep it running while I’m working on my clothes (doesn’t slow me down too.)

You can pick up a trial version of the game here. The full version costs L499. The trial version will run out after you get 10 acres of the land (which gives you plenty of time to get used to how it works so you can make a decision as to if it for you or not.) Well, here I go advertising for them, I should get money or something, lol. =) Also if anyone decides to play, just ask me for help. I’ve learned alot and I can also redirect you to some kind players that would love to help you out.

Thanks again for reading guys (are you reading?)

Progression

April 7th, 2008

Hello everyone. First post here! I haven’t been in Second Life long and noticed a number of people blog about their adventures/ventures in SL, and thought I would follow suit. So I made Breaking Away (explanation of the title is in the About – Site section btw.)

I was born in SL on Feb. 14th 2008, so I’m almost 2 months old. It has been really fun so far and I’ve met a bunch of cool people and had a lot of fun to boot.

I thought my first blog could be a presentation of my avatar’s progression over the past 2 months. The first thing I was really amazed by was the inifinite possibilities of how your avatar can look. Plus, you can even make your own clothes/hair/etc. Can we say: Won-der-ful!

When I first got to Second Life, obviously my avatar didn’t look too good and for a few days there I was just about to give up on everything, because I couldn’t figure out how to get contents out of a box of freebies I had! But after a while and some studying up, I figured it out. Then I went on freebie binge. I found many wonderful freebies browsing Onrez and the list on FabFree.

After getting some Lindens, I went on a shopping spree and found a wonderful goth outfit from BareRose. Then I decided, I didn’t want to be goth and changed. lol.

Found some other great outfits from BareRose, that I love very much and some great hair from GurlyWood.

Plus a plethora of other great items (which I will try to list on the Links category to the right.)

And this is one of the first dresses I’ve created. I plan on forming a clothing business, I’ve been reading alot of tutorials and working hard on it. More to come later.

Well, I’ve went on long enough. Thanks for reading my blog. I hope you enjoyed.
